Installation

If you are downloading an updated version of EasyErlang, it is recommended that you let the installation program remove the installed version and then install the newly downloaded version.  This will not impact your registered software or the remaining evaluation period.

Installation Errors

Message "some programs will not install correctly if you do not have administrative privileges on this computer".

Press OK.  Do not select the option to run the program as a system administrator.

Message "Error 1931. The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\WINNT\System32\hhctrl.ocx because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."

Disregard the error (press OK) and continue the installation. However, it is recommended that you install the latest Service Pack for Windows to ensure that you have the most recent version of that ocx.

Message "Set Error 11"

You may receive this message if you do not have sufficient privileges to write to Windows registry.  Install EasyErlang as Administrator (Windows 2000) or Owner (Windows XP).

Message "Set Error 55"

This message is the result of Windows XP not initializing after the installation as Owner and attempting to run EasyErlang as a normal user.  Restart the computer and try again.

Using EasyErlang

General

Menu accelerator keys are not visible

The default setting for Windows 2000 and XP is to hide keyboard accelerators until the user presses Alt.  To configure Windows for the traditional, go to Control Panel, Display, Effects and uncheck the "Hide keyboard navigation until I use the Alt key" option.

The data table does not calculate resources for all agents and appears to periodically skip a row
This situation occurs only when you apply shrinkage to the calculations.  EasyErlang calculates performance for the entire range, and then increases the number of agents to compensate for the shrinkage.  Because agents must be counted in integer (whole) units the number is rounded up and may give the impression that a row has been skipped.

For example, the required number of agents in a row is 10 and after applying shrinkage it is adjusted to 12.  The calculations for the next row start with 11 agents, which after adjusting for shrinkage becomes 13.2 and is rounded up to 14.  It appears that the calculation for 13 agents has been skipped.

This behavior does not affect the accuracy of the calculations.

The display of "fractional agents" is incorrect

When you display "fractional agents" by right-clicking the selected line, the number is much smaller than the number of agents and appears to be incorrect. This situation occurs only when you apply shrinkage to the calculations.  The number of agents is adjusted to the defined shrinkage, whereas the number displayed hen you right-click the line is the actual number before shrinkage.

The data displayed in a graph does not match the summary table

Graphs do not take shrinkage into account.  Whenever shrinkage is greater than 0% (the default value), the summary table will show higher headcount than the graph due to the added shrinkage.

6. Installation completed without errors, but when I run EasyErlang I get an error message "Component 'comctl32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid".

Problems with comctl32.ocx are quite common because many Windows programs use it and there are multiple versions of it.  Also, if by chance you are using Office XP, it may have removed this file.

Comctl32.ocx is installed by EasyErlang Setup program. Uninstall EasyErlang, reboot your computer and make sure no other programs are running, then reinstall EasyErlang.

If reinstalling EasyErlang doesn't help, the file has to be installed manually.  This site provides updated Windows components files and detailed installation instructions: http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/support_dll.phtml?dllname=COMCTL32.OCX.
